Fleadh Nua, Ennis, Co. Clare / Inis, Co. an Cháir May 20 – 28 / Bealtaine 2012 There are many Irish traditional festivals organised throughout the summer months but there are few people who will dispute that Fleadh Nua which started in Dublin in 1970, is the forerunner of them all. The concept of bringing together concerts, céilithe, music, song and dancing workshops, street entertainment, pageants/parades and much more was innovative in its time. However, it’s still a winning formula today as evidenced by the thousands of visitors who flock to the festival every May for a week of unsurpassed traditional entertainment. This year will see the introduction of new competitions for Sean-Nós dancing and Sean-Nós dancing performances on the gig-rigs. An exciting range of concerts and recitals at Glór, the continuation of the Riches of Clare series of lunchtime concerts, numerous pub sessions, a great programme of céilithe with the best bands are but some of the attractions of Fleadh Nua 2012. All roads, old and new will lead to Ennis and Fleadh Nua in May 2012. Performers include; Clifden Comhaltas Groups, West Coast Youth Groups, Liz and Yvonne Kane, Members of Trad in the West, Cunningham Family Sean Nos Dancers and lots lots more local musicians! All Musicians and performers are asked to support and are welcome. Also at the Concert, the branch is going to be honouring 5 performers who have died since the last fleadh in Clifden in 1990. They were involved at that fleadh and involved in the Comhaltas branch then also. They are: Jimmy Mullen, Frank King, Noreen Mahon-Mangan, Gus Barry and Michael Pryce. The branch thought it would be a nice opportunity to honour and remember them for their past contribution. Admission is €10 on the door and a contribution will be made also to “Friends of Fatima Hospital, Clifden”. All are Welcome.
